Arbor Day Celebration
Arbor Day holds a special place in the hearts of communities like Brown Deer, where the appreciation for nature's green canopy is ingrained in the town's identity. This year, as we gear up to celebrate Arbor Day on Monday, May 13th, the Brown Deer Community Foundation invites you to join us in honoring this tradition with a blend of community engagement and environmental stewardship.
“He who plants a tree, plants a hope.” - Lucy Larcom, American teacher, poet, and author
Wisconsin DNR Forestry recently commented that the Village of Brown Deer stands out not only for its picturesque landscapes but also for its commitment to sustainable urban forestry practices. Recognized as a Tree City USA, a prestigious designation bestowed upon cities that demonstrate exceptional care and management of their urban forests, Brown Deer stands tall as a beacon of green innovation.
The Tree City USA program, administered by Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources, embodies the essence of community collaboration in nurturing and preserving urban green spaces. Through initiatives like tree planting, maintenance, and education, Brown Deer exemplifies the core values of this program, ensuring that future generations inherit a thriving urban ecosystem. Brown Deer has earned a Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation for 27 straight years, including two Growth awards in 1998 and 2013.
As part of our Arbor Day festivities, we invite all Brown Deer residents to participate in a special event at the Village Hall, located at 4800 W. Green Brook Drive.
Join us on Monday, May 13th, at 1:00 PM for a delightful afternoon filled with camaraderie and tree planting.
Engage in lively conversations with village staff and fellow residents as you savor delicious cookies and delve into the importance of urban forestry. But the highlight of the event lies in the opportunity to contribute directly to our urban forest's growth. With your help, we aim to plant trees that will not only enhance the beauty of our community but also contribute to its ecological health and resilience.
